Alternative Certification Program
- Designed for individuals already holding at least a Bachelor’s degree and are seeking certification only
- Complete in 18 months
- Our Pre-Service scope and sequence was designed so candidates can keep a full-time job while completing their pre-service program requirements
- During the last 12 months of the program, candidates earn a teacher’s salary while completing their coursework and training requirements
Undergraduate (or Traditional) Route
- Designed for individuals who are obtaining a Bachelor’s degree and certification
- Typically takes four years to complete
- Completed through an institute of higher education (IHE)
Post-Baccalaureate Route
- Designed for individuals who already hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and are seeking an additional degree and certification concurrently
- May take anywhere from two-four years to complete
- Completed through an institute of higher education (IHE)
Alternative certification programs (ACP’s) offer a non-traditional route to certification that may allow you to teach while completing the requirements. These programs are located in universities, school districts, education service centers, community colleges, and private entities. A list of approved programs is available on the TEA website.
